Greene County is located in West Central Iowa. It is named for Nathanael Greene, a general in the Revolutionary War.

Its seat and largest city is Jefferson. Major highways include US-30, IA-4, IA-25 and IA-144

It borders Calhoun, Webster, Boone, Dallas, Guthrie and Carroll Counties.
